Alternate letters clues

The answer is made from every other letter of some words in the clue. 'Oddly' takes letters 1, 3, 5 and so on; 'evenly' or 'regularly' takes letters 2, 4, 6.

How to spot one

• Look for 'oddly', 'evenly', 'regularly' or 'alternately'.
• The words next to the indicator will be about twice as long as the answer.
• Ignore spaces: the pattern usually runs straight across word gaps.
